Another picture-less post, but at least enjoy the video!

Friday, December 11, 2009

Eve's camera is still at Jen's house, which means we don't have a picture to upload just yet. However we wanted you to be able to at least see the video!

We're taking a break from the normal routine to treat ourselves to something a little different. BEHOLD! We began our reward for finishing the 3rd quadrant of our normal puzzle. Below is the box before it was opened and our Bailey's irish cream drinks:

And the final picture when we were done puzzling for the evening:

Finally, for our faithful viewers, here's a quick video we put together after the puzzling had been ended recapping our evening:

December 7, 2009 - 3rd quadrant complete!

It was an epic 4-hour puzzle session, but we finished the 3rd quadrant today. This one took us 70 hours total (if you figure that we puzzled together the whole time.) You can see the moment we completed it in the post below. We videoed most of the 4-hours, but figured no one would want to watch 4 hours of puzzle.

However, for posterity, we must document a funny exchange that happened this evening.

Early on, Jen was frustrated with a piece that wasn't cooperating, so I asked Eve to take it away because "this piece has sass." It was a frustrating piece, so I found it a fitting word. Eve erupted in fits of giggles.

Later on, we both had puzzle back (a serious medical condition), and we called for a stretch. I somehow knocked a lamp over in the process (don't ask), blowing a lightbulb in the process. Eve tried to change the lightbulb, but reached in with her bare hand to touch the hot lightbulb. I called her a ninny. Hilarity enused.

Finally, I made some sort of comment about how there are "too many gaps in the puzzle these days", Eve said "You speak as though you're from another time, with the sass and the ninny and the 'too many gaps in the puzzle these days'." And we both lost it. I guess you had to be there.

So, that's it for now. We'll start Singapore once we figure out what to do with the other three, now completed quadrants.

We're to a point where taking pictures doesn't reveal our progress. In this session, we were able to finish most of the top of the puzzle with the dreaded "all one color of purple" pieces. I think we're under 200 pieces left to be placed into the puzzle. The goal: be finished with this quadrant by Christmas so Jen has her table back since she's hosting this year.

November 26, 2009

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving morning puzzle session. We had been missing a piece of the sky for months, and had long since assumed it had gone missing forever. Then, Jen decided to check the chair cushion. Immediately upon reaching in, there it was.

Good session, although it's still slow going because of the blue.

Another productive session, we have started on the inevitable blue edges.

An amazing 2.5 hour sessions, where we finished the picture. Next up - edges!

June 7, 2009

So yeah, it's time to start puzzling again! However, I must record the last puzzle session was a solo Jen session on June 7, in which 30 minutes was spent, bringing the total actual time to 73.25 hours. However, if we'd puzzled together, it would be 53 hours.

Another Jen solo session. Sorry for the shadows on the photo, it was taken in the morning.

As of now, we have worked 72.75 actual hours on the puzzle, but if we'd worked together the whole time, it would be only 52.75 hours.

Nearing the end of the black bits, then the edge!

A Jen solo session.

A note to our readers on our missed "deadline":

When we started the puzzle, our goal was to be done by April 3, 2009. At the time, that goal seemed doable. Eve wasn't working, and I was in a not-very-demanding job. Then, Eve got a job that requires a long commute and some external projects, and I got a job that sometimes requires me to work at home, etc. Also, we lost the entire month of October due to travel, vacations, etc.

But, we're okay with this! Considering the woman we found online who had completed the puzzle in a year was unemployed, we weren't really giving ourselves a fair deadline :o)

March 8, 2009

Eve had some spare time and managed to get in 2 hours worth of puzzling today. We're nearly down to having to work on pieces that are only black with no other color. Once we get the all black pieces done, we'll move on to the all purple pieces. We're getting closer!

March 5, 2009

The buildings were tough, but we managed to get them mostly completed during this duel puzzling session.

February 26, 2009

Ah, the fateful night when Jen sprained her ankle. Lesson learned: WALK up the stairs, don't run.

February 24, 2009

We're still missing one piece, but the sky is done!

February 19, 2009

Our first dual puzzling session in quite a while! It was fantastic. So awesome in fact that Eve didn't want to stop puzzling! Good times were had by all, and many jokes shared....some were rather inappropriate, but hysterical none the less! Who made the goofy rule about "No drinking at the puzzle table?" I'm glad that rule has been vetoed! Definite progress is being made again.

February 17, 2009

A solo puzzle session by eve. 2.5 hours and I still don't feel like I did much. I managed to find a huge chunk of pieces that were in the wrong place, so I'm hoping that helps. All the pieces are so close in color and many of them can go in several different places and look like they fit together. It's quite challenging to work on the sky!

February 11, 2009

A 2 hour solo puzzle session by Eve. I don't feel like I honestly got anywhere! I worked just on the sky and it's quite a challenge. Most of the pieces are all the same color or change color so rapidly it's hard to be sure whether or not the pieces are in the right place. Hopefully progress will pick up speed again! Also, due to the strong winds this evening the power kept going on and off. I've learned it's truly quite impossible to puzzle in the dark!

February 3, 2009

Dual puzzling session. Eve took over the sky and Jen took over the buildings. Progress is slowing a little, but that's to be expected.

February 2, 2009

1.5 hour solo session by Eve. I pulled out the pieces for the buildings, and I think I managed to make a bigger mess more than I was able to actually make any progress.

Jen puzzled solo Friday night. Sky doesn't look like it's making progress, but it is!

Jen puzzled solo for two hours. My the sky is coming along nicely!

Friday, January 23, 2009

Jen puzzled solo for an hour. The sky is coming together nicely!

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

January 20, 2008

A 1.5 hour solo puzzle session by eve. Apparently I can get quite a bit done when I'm not talking. Although it's more fun to puzzle with Jen!!

Sunday, January 18, 2009

January 16, 2009

A dual puzzling session, Jen and I were both there again! Jen made huge progress on the sky and I began working on the water.

January 14, 2008

More progress!!

December 31, 2008

Jen puzzled for 3 hours solo, working more on the sky. Seems like slow going, but the sky is really fun in this quadrant.

Total of 21 hours spent thus far, but would actually only be 14 hours if we'd been puzzling together the whole time.
